The Obama Phenomena

The author of Mein Kampf, a valid theory on how propaganda works, said propaganda is 90% emotional and 10% rational. The Obama phenomena proves this when it comes to politics and mass movements. Hitting the nerve of the masses emotionally is the key and this is exactly what Obama is doing as he leads people to believe he is the peace candidate while talking about expanding the war on terror.

To prove him wrong or to call him out all we have are the facts, and the rationale to connect a few dots. Doing this we can see Mr. O is a part of the Council On Foreign Relations establishment which manages our country’s war efforts. Then we see Mr. O is advised by Mr. Brzezinski to carry out the agenda he laid out in his book “The Grand Chessboard”. Next up according to the book is Pakistan and then Iran/Syria.

It is so simple and yet so hard to go against the grain when all you have on your side are the facts and the truth. You will never be more than 10% in the game.

The more wool you can pull the more you can get away with. Obama/Clinton/McCain are the smoke while Rome burns. Where is the fire department?

The Democrats are not the fire department. Either there is no water in the truck or the hose is too short. One thing for sure is, as long as this ‘war on terror’ continues the Democrats are complicit in this criminal war.

Clinton and Obama - Peaceful Candidates?

What an important discussion, great input on this relevant topic – PEACE!

Recently, Tom Hayden made the call for the peace movement to be louder in demanding candidates move toward peace. He then pointed out the differences between Obama and Clinton favoring Obama as being the most for peace. He left out one very important point, who are the advisors and potential cabinet members for each candidate.

Before my point, I would agree with Mary and Bruce that these are establishment candidates and it really does not matter who is running, they will all deliver the agenda to the rulers of our country; the Rothschilds (of the Federal reserve fame), and their many surrogates including: the Rockefellers (the controllers of Exxon and Chase Manhattan Bank), the Morgans (banking), Murdcoh (media), and the managers of the US government, the Council Of Foreign Relations. Both Obama and Clinton are members of the CFR as well as McCain.

Obama pledges unfaltering military support to Israel

Obama does not believe nuclear weapons should be used – however, his policy still backs preemptive strikes and the further militarization of the middle east, all at the expense of US resources.

Obama outlines his ambitious geopolitical plans in a recent essay for Foreign Affairs magazine, August, 2007. Foreign Affairs is published by the Council on Foreign Relations, which describes itself as a non-partisan group of which he is a member.

Economic Freedom Under Attack

There is much to be aware of on the economic front. This awareness is important because we live in a society ruled by money and its trappings and what happens to our economic system shapes our lives. Case in point: in 40 years we went from a society that offered free college to having college graduates become indentured servants paying off their college loans.

Now we see the coming of a New World Order that may permanently change our society if not stopped. Our economic lives are under attack and economic chaos is about to invade our accounts, our savings, our pensions, our stocks, our security. The winners will take advantage of the chaos the losers are the ones unable or unwilling to take action.

Savings accounts will be attacked further down the road, first what is being attacked are the pensions, stock holdings, and paper appraisals of wealth such as land holdings. Soon (maybe as soon as this summer) the bonds, mutual funds, and life insurance policies will be attacked. Then the savings will go when the banks go from 8,000 to 2,200. Banks catering to minorities will be hit the hardest. In the S&L scandal of hte 1980's the white neighborhoods received FDIC settlements of 90% while banks in Harlem received a 10% return on their lost savings.

All of this will be in accordance with the new regulations, new regimentation set forth by our government. These regs represent the interests of the NWO wealthy, regs established by the designers of the New World Order. Read Kissinger, Brzezinski, Perle, William F. Buckley, and Anis Ninn to gain the philosophy that justifies their end and their means.

As our economic lives get rougher and more turbulent lifeboats will appear and people will climb on board. These lifeboats will be the mechanisms of the NWO and will result in the regimentation of our finances, our industries and our lives set forth by our designers; the Rothschilds, the Rockefellers, the Knopps etc. The banks, the funds, the companies that abide by the new regs and new rules set forth by the NWO will be the patsies that take care of cementing the new life we are to live. Unfortunately this new life will create a feudalistic society and resemble the nature of the Dark Ages; and it will not be fruitful for the masses.

Can the new aristocracy survive the rage of the masses? Indeed they have and will survive if the people do not realize the depth and magnitude of the problem they face in time to offset their plans. The only true way I can see for the people to survive is for them to exit the NWO system and begin a new system that usurps the old to make the new.

The seeds of the new sprout in times of chaos. What are you doing to create a New World? This is the question that is beyond Iraq, beyond the smoke and mirrors of the daily news. This is the essential question that is not being asked and must be answered and put into action if we are to survive.

Bush Pardons Himself

Dear Friends,

This is a short piece on a bill that was passed last fall – this bill was crammed full of many abuses of power that sent many Americans over the edge claiming enough – Bush has got to go. The Bill is known as the Military Commissions Act and in that bill were a few sentences that exonerated Bush and the Pentagon from any war crimes. It also exonerated all the people that devised the tortures techniques (6 men in all) that quite definitely break the Geneva Treaty.

Here is a short opinion on this bill that is quite poignant and worth re-sharing a year later. Why, because nothing has changed really – Bush and Congress are still running rough shod over the rights and values of The Untied States of America.

Zeitgeist Movie Review

I like the film simply because it pokes holes in the status quo of a corrupt establishment. It challenges the viewer to look more deeply into the origin of their belief structures. This is so necessary for these times, in fact it is the silver lining of these times.

Bush is the grain of sand in the oyster of society, it is up to the people to make the pearl. We cannot make pearls if we do not know how deeply we are connected to the grain of sand. All around us myths are being dissolved and new beliefs are arising in their stead. I have spent my life sheparding people into the new beliefs set forth by the cultural revolution of the 60's.

One new belief is a more equalitarian society. The Bushites can be seen as the great equalizer as the free market economy destroys the old economy. How people react to their new economy, their new poverty will determine if we are to live in the values of the New World or the New World Order. Sharing and bartering to meet our needs are examples of equalizing society and are good reactions to the poverty that Bush's establishment is creating.

The process of change is in two main stages -- disillusionment with the old status quo (Zeitgeist) and adoption of a new status quo (sustainable Ballard).

To get caught up in the small print in Zeitgeist is missing the point. The movie is to challenge some major beliefs around religion, country, and money. John Lennon did it in 3 minutes in a song called Imagine, this movie does it in 2 hours.

There are over 200 youth living in the woods on Whidbey Island. They can be seen as candidates for living on an organic, self sustaining farm or left alone they will probably take on a Robin Hood scenario (rob from the rich and give to the poor) to stay alive. The choice is in the hands of those that choose to take action. Visionaries look to harvest the disillusioned and heard them into the New World system; culturalists see this as an opportunity to spread the message of the New World (being stewards of the land), and true human beings see it as a way to spread love and kindness.

The current status quo is being broken apart. Our constitutional government is being rendered useless. Our democratic society is being replaced with feudalism. The opportunity to create a new society out of the disillusioned is growing greater. Its life depends on how many people drop out or escape from the old system and join in the creation of the new. I mentioned a few ideas at the dinner on how people can make the transfer to the New World; start a garden club, join a food club, and start an energy exchange club (neighborhood energy grids). The New World is off the grid; the more your life is off the grid the more you are engaged in the New World.

The movie Zeitgeist is a breaking down of the mental walls in our lives to free us from their attachment and ready us for change; not unlike breaking down the Iron Curtain and the Berlin Wall to let new ideas spring forth. The prophets say I told you so, the visionaries say there is a better way, the hosts and stewards of the new way say welcome aboard.

New ID rules may complicate air travel

“Chertoff said that for any state which doesn't seek such a waiver by May, residents of that state will have to use a passport or certain types of federal border-crossing cards if they want to avoid a vigorous secondary screening at airport security.”
Some Americans will have to carry a passport to fly INSIDE their OWN COUNTRY! And be subject to vigorous screening by airport security. We are crossing borders inside our own country. After the planes they will require ID to travel by train, bus, and car. Excuse me SIR, but I do not have my papers!

This silliness will not end until Congress stops declaring our National State of emergency and in effect putting an end to the fantasy war on terror.

Here is an update on an aspect of our liberty I want to pass along – ID cards. Because of the uproar of several states the plans to implement a national ID card have slowed but not stopped. These plans to ID everybody in America are moving forward but against the grain of 17 states that oppose these plans. Our Washington state is one of the six states in favor of the ID cards.

Good going America, keep up the resistance, keep our liberties alive, NO National or REAL ID systems. Stop the policies then dissolve the agency – this would be the Department of Homeland Security agency (what a bogus name).

Cities have begun issuing ID cards to allow or deny access to basic city services such as banking, government aid, libraries, and aid to the homeless and the hungry. If Americans allow the REAL ID card law to be implemented, in the coming years Americans will need this card to board airplanes, access government buildings, or even stadiums.

Here is my blog on the topic of voting for an establishment candidate – candidates that support the status quo of the war establishment.

What is the connection between Obama and Osama, and what does it all have to do with your mother? When I read the daily news it is kind of like that God, Country, and Family thing. When Obama talks like Martin Luther King it is spiritual, when Osama makes a video it is country, and it is all about securing your mother and the family.

The gist of their report was to expose the frontrunners’ true motives and it brought up a lot of hypocrisy. The Hypocrisy, I mean Democrat Party has a thin veneer but it has proven to be a tough one to crack. The people so want to change to direction our country is going they overlook their duty and responsibility as voters and controllers in our constitutional democracy; and this is to see the candidates for who they really are and then voting their conscience.

Tell me, is it better to be robbed out in the open or by a friend that cajoles you while stabbing you in the back. The American public got a taste of this trickery when they mandated the new Congress to end the war in Iraq and they got nothing. There was hope, there was faith, there was the Democrats coming to save the day. The first thing the Dem leadership did was take impeachment off the table, the second thing they did was implement the 41 nefarious recommendations of the 9/11 Commission, tightening the noose of marital law around America’s neck, the third thing they did was throw the people a bone; they raised the minimum wage $2 over 2 years. All hope for real change was dashed.

Now Barack Obama is leading the charge for change once again. But electing Obama may be a big mistake for those wanting peace in our world, when his main advisors are in favor of war. The connection between Obama and Osama is the War On Terror. One of the architects of this war is none other than Brzezinski, where he lays out his plan for this war in his 1997 book, ‘The Grand Chessboard’. “As America becomes an increasingly multicultural society, it may become more difficult to fashion a consensus on foreign policy issues, except in the circumstance of a truly massive and widely perceived direct external threat.” His advice gave us the Mujahideen in Afghanistan, and several writings that are the foundation for the Project for a New American Century and the Bush Doctrine aka US foreign policy.

I am not in favor of Brzezinski being an advisor to anyone in our country let alone a presidential candidate. Obama’s other hawk advisors include: Anthony Lake, the main force behind the US invasion of Haiti; General Merrill McPeak, an Air Force man, who not long after the Dili massacre in East Timor in ’91 oversaw the delivery to Indonesia of US fighter planes; Richard Clarke, former terror czar of the Clinton and Bush administrations.

In addition, I am not too happy about Obama’s comments on Pakistan, “Obama Vows To Hunt Terrorists In Pakistan”, even if their government does not approve. This is further than Bush’s proposal to send in the CIA.

In the end will Obama, and his support for the War On Terror, make your mother, your family SAFE? In the end that must be America’s primary goal, to end the endless war on terror.

Economic Timing

This may be the beginning of the point of no return; world economic collapse. This is a big statement but give it time, the great unraveling may have begun.

The US economy, although it will suffer through 2008, will still look good compared to others because it is an election year. AS the world plunges into the chaos of economic disaster the US will still be the life boat to hang on to and the spark plug for regeneration of the new Bilderberg economy aka New World Order. Now is the time to make plans to create an alternative economy for oneself.

An economy based on sharing is best, then an economy based on trading and indulging in the black market are next to the best.

A Rebuttal to a Challenger of Impeachment

Dear Robin,

Thank you for your point of view. It is one of the more thought through arguments against impeachment that I have seen. Pelosi should have such an opinion to explain her stand against impeachment rather than her simplistic jargon. Here is my rebuttal to your thought through conclusions.

“I challenge you all to look beyond 1/21/2009, the date that any chance of any impeachment finally comes to an end” - January 21th, 2009, is not the cutoff date for impeachment, it is a rallying point to impeach the next president if that president does not declare an end to the National State of Emergency that allows for the current tyranny in this country. Furthermore, if the next president does not restore our constitution then that president must be impeached, is this clear? This is not a personality contest, impeachment is not because we hate somebody, and it definitely does not fit into a timeline like inauguration day; it is about reclaiming what the War On terror has taken away – our liberties and our rights.

“A better way to go is to continue investigations, continue to bring indictments” - Impeachment is a synonym for investigation – it is in fact, the MOTHER of ALL investigations. Without an impeachment investigation we will never get all the dirt that is being swept under the rug by a corrupt Congress and an even more corrupt executive branch.

Impeachment is an indictment against all the lawbreakers and their supporters, aka “impeachment is off the table folk”. It indicts those that are criminally insane and those in denial that major laws are being broken placing our country on life support. Without the recognition of the need for impeachment then the US Freedom ship will surely sink.

“I believe that if we put this adjucation into the congress, the most corrupted body politic on planet earth, we will disqualify evidence needed for legal actions and THE CORRUPTED ONES...aka...democrats nd republicans, will hide such impeachment actions from the public.” - I do agree that Congress is corrupted and we may never get an honest investigation from them and they may sweep everything under the table along with the public’s demand for justice. However, we must not overlook the role that impeachment plays in the life of our country at this time.

Impeachment is a declaration of support. It is a litmus test to see where citizens, congressional representatives, and our leaders stand on the ‘Rule of Law’ in our country. You are either with the rule of law or you are against it, you are either with breaking the law and acting like criminals or you are against it. By putting impeachment aside you fail as a citizen, you fail as a patriot, and you fail in your duties to defend the freedom the constitution affords. In your declaration against impeachment you are against the very fabric of the United States, the ‘Rule of Law’ given to us by the constitution.

“What you and all your impeachment friends should be doing instead is to get involved with election reform, including "publically funded elections" - In a republic governed by a constitution, NOTHING is more important than the constitution and the rule of law that upholds it. Without this there is nothing, no liberty, no law, and NO elections of ANY kind. When you break the law and have unfair elections then the people need to uphold the rule of law to guarantee elections. Rather than work for a new electoral system lets work to uphold the law that guarantees an electoral system. NO law = no elections.

Even though I respect your opinion I think it does our country a dis service and places our liberty at risk. Please recognize the importance of impeachment beyond the simplistic jargon our Congress is giving us. Their anti-impeachment palaver flirts with disaster and that disaster is the end of the United States. Impeachment is the new beginning.

Dear Federal Communications Commission Committee,

I respect your position in life; being on the Federal Communications Commission is a very powerful position. The press is the vehicle to an informed electorate and a healthy democracy. You beg to ask the question if we want our media in the hands of fewer not more minds. To place the power of the media into many minds is a healthy democracy to place this power into a few minds is a healthy authoritarian government. You hold the power to make this decision.

You are asking the people of this region if they want a democracy or a dictator form of government. You have a lot of gall coming to Seattle to make your case for more concentration of power, and your absurd excuse is FOX News gives money to charity and the people can have news on the radio while the men folk watch a football game. Well you can see the passion in Seattle against your proposal and lame excuses for monopolies in our sacred press. Seattle has listened to your proposal and we aren’t buying it.

I admire your courage to come to Seattle to hold a public hearing on the consolidation of media ownership, because your mission comes with great risk as you ask Seattle for permission for an authoritarian government. Remember what happened last month to Rumsfeld. The people of France accused him of war crimes and as they were about to serve him a warrant he had to sneak out of the country. Is this what you want for yourselves; to be a Rumsfeld of your own country? Beware, the people will warrant your criminal behavior of consolidating power in the media.

It amazes me that you would even dare come before the people and ask their opinion on this absurd and atrocious proposal; to ask the people if they want a democracy or an authoritarian government. Kucinich Launches Impeachment of Cheney

Today, November 6, 2007, on the floor of the US House of Representatives, the illustrious and tenacious Rep. Dennis Kucinich D-OH, exercised House Rule 604 and called for High Privilege to impeach VP Dick Cheney. “A direct proposition to impeach is a question of high privilege in the House and at once supersedes business otherwise in order”.

I watched for ANY news on this historic event on our evening news. It became obvious the editors of our news elected to choose any story BUT impeachment. Instead of hearing the reasons why Cheney must be impeached to restore the ‘Rule of Law’ in our great country, the headlines were composed of: the chaos of martial law in Pakistan, the Hollywood writers strike and how our TV shows will be re-runs, a lost woman named Stacey Peterson, an interview with presidential hopeful Rudy Giuliani, a Senate committee approving a man that thinks torture comes in handy to be our next head of police, and a five minute expose on why Hillary thought she was not at her best in the last debate. Hillary, is she playing the sex card while admitting she is not playing the sex card, you decide.

Americans have once again been denied news that is crucial to knowing what is happening to their country; insulted by Neanderthals in charge of camera views; disgraced by the one industry mentioned in our constitution in order to protect us from Attorney Generals that think torture comes in handy. The press, the fourth branch of government, is now the defender of a Great BIG LIE, the War On Terror, the press in post 9/11 continues to fail us.

But wait, there was one mention, one interview of Kucinich on the evening news, did anyone see it? Fox Business News interviewed him O’Reilly style. Fox Business News, the station I never heard of, never knew it was on my TV, dissing Kucinich for 3 minutes, is the best the press could do. This is pathetic.

So what happened? Kucinich asked for High Privilege on the floor of the House to impeach VP Dick Cheney. Kucinich was well spoken while reading of the entire 11 page resolution laying out the reasons to impeach: manipulating intelligence to lead us into war, threatening a foreign country with attack (Iran), and in violation of his constitutional oath to faithfully execute the office of vice president etc. After he introduced the resolution, House Majority Leader Steny Hoyer, D-Md., immediately moved to table it.

Instead of debating the resolution the Democrats moved to table it and dispose of it. The vote was going in favor of tabling with 290 votes until the GOP leadership changed its mind. Republicans one by one changed their votes from yes to kill the resolution, to no, forcing the chamber into a debate and an up-or-down vote on impeachment. This I have never seen before, votes changing in both directions. Both Republicans and Democrats switched their votes to NOT table the resolution, then to table it, then not to. The final vote was 251-162 against tabling, with 165 Republicans voting against the resolution and 86 Democrats jumping the Pelosi ship and splitting the party. Unbelievable, could it be the Republicans are grabbing the Holy Grail of impeachment away from the Democrats?

"We're going to help them out, to explain themselves," said Rep. Pete Sessions, R-Texas.

I am thinking the Republicans seized the opportunity to split the Democrats, which is what happened. They also are confident they can actually win the debate, decided by a vote on impeachment, which they will win at this time. But given there is new found momentum for impeachment this strategy may backfire if they wait too long.

The Republicans stole the day and kept impeachment alive in the House until, the Democrats countered by offering a motion to refer the proposal to the House Judiciary Committee for further study, effectively preventing a debate on the House floor. That motion passed by a party-line vote of 218-194.

So we are back where we started but with more support for impeachment from the Democrats on the Judiciary committee and in the House.

The White House said, “Democrats were shirking responsibilities on issues such as children’s health insurance, and they find time to waste an afternoon on an impeachment vote against the vice president. This is why Americans shake their head in wonder about the priorities of this Congress."

What do you think John Q. Public? Is Congress wasting its time pursuing impeachment? There comes a time when good people have to exclude themselves from a crime when it is being committed right before their eyes. This John Q. Public thinks every day has to be impeachment day until the crimes against us cease. If members of Congress block impeachment they are defending the crimes and must be recalled when possible or voted out of office.

Now it is official, Americans in Seattle have to pay a fee to use the public parks for rallies and it is called the First Amendment Fee. We have to pay a fee to exercise our rights. And if you do not have the money, you do not have the right to peacefully assemble.

Consistent with section 202(d) of the National Emergencies Act (50 U.S.C. 1622(d)), I am continuing for 1 year the national emergency I declared on September 14, 2001, in Proclamation 7463, with respect to the terrorist attacks at the World Trade Center, New York, New York, the Pentagon, and aboard United Airlines flight 93, and the continuing and immediate threat of further attacks on the United States. Because the terrorist threat continues, the national emergency declared on September 14, 2001, last extended on September 5, 2006, and the powers and authorities adopted to deal with that emergency, must continue in effect beyond September 14, 2007. Therefore, I am continuing in effect for an additional year the national emergency I declared on September 14, 2001, with respect to the terrorist threat.

Bush Criminalizes Anti-War Movement

A little-noted Executive Order signed last Tuesday, July 17, has the effect of criminalizing any activities opposing the US occupation of Iraq or US plans for that country's economic or political restructuring. The order (reprinted in full below the forwarded commentary, and available at http://www.whitehouse.gov/news/releases/2007/07/20070717-3.html) calls for the Federal government to block the financial assets of:

{It's no wonder people are afraid to confront this government - the power this government wields is quite numbing and paralyzes people that would otherwise speak out}
"any person determined by the Secretary of the Treasury, in consultation with the Secretary of State and the Secretary of Defense,
(i) to have committed, or to pose a significant risk of committing, an act or acts of violence that have the purpose or effect of:
(A) threatening the peace or stability of Iraq or the Government of Iraq; or
(B) undermining efforts to promote economic reconstruction and political reform in Iraq or to provide humanitarian assistance to the Iraqi people;
(ii) to have materially assisted, sponsored, or provided financial, material, logistical, or technical support for, or goods or services in support of, such an act or acts of violence or any person whose property and interests in property are blocked pursuant to this order;" (underlinings all mine).

"Blocking" of assets under this order means a prohibition on their being "transferred, paid, exported, withdrawn, or otherwise dealt in."

Note the following points in the language of this Executive Order:

1. The determination of whose assets are to be blocked is made strictly within the executive branch. No courts are involved.
2. The order authorizes actions not only against those determined to have committed the proscribed acts, but also against those determined--again, by the executive branch--to pose a risk of committing them. It thus authorizes preemptive actions against targeted persons.
3. The order also applies to anyone who has assisted or supported a person who has been declared subject to this order.
Elsewhere, the order defines "person" to refer to an individual or an "entity," which in turn is defined to mean any "partnership, association, trust, joint venture, corporation, group, subgroup, or other organization."

Let's understand what this means. Let's say that CAWI sponsors or endorses an anti-occupation rally, and that in the course of that rally the Chicago police change their recent relatively permissive approach and decide to crack a couple heads. Well, we have "violence" in connection with that event, so the U. S. Treasury Department can freeze CAWI's meager assets. But in fact there needn't be any actual violence at that rally; the event itself might be determined to pose a risk of violence, so CAWI is subject to the order. In fact, there needn't actually be a rally; just the planning of a protest--or indeed just talking about one, let alone such overt acts as maintaining a web site containing anti-occupation content, or managing a listserve that facilitates anti-occupation discussion--might be determined to present such a risk, and make CAWI subject to the order.

And once that determination is made and CAWI's assets are frozen, then any organization that has supported or participated in any CAWI activities is subject to having its own assets frozen for having "materially assisted, sponsored or provided...support for" an organization deemed subject to the order. And, oh yeah, any of us individuals who have contributed to CAWI directly or to a local UFPJ affiliate or other group that has ever cooperated with CAWI in any way might then have all of our assets frozen as well.

It's not only the explicitly anti-war groups that could be subject to this order. Freedom of Information Act demands by groups such as the ACLU or Human Rights Watch for access to documents related to US policy on Iraq could be determined to inflame passions that would pose the risk of violence that would interfere with the Iraqi occupation. That determination would put the assets of those organizations and subsequently of their members in jeopardy. Similar FOIA demands by news media could likewise jeopardize the assets of the parent corporation of a newspaper or broadcaster.

In fact, suppose there are anti-occupation protests outside the 2008 Democratic Convention, and the Treasury Department determines that those protests (a) pose a risk of violence, and (b) are prompted at least in part by speeches on the convention floor opposing administration policy on Iraq. In that situation, the language of this Executive Order could be construed to permit the freezing of the assets of the Democratic Party.

Given an administration in which the Under Secretary of Defense, Eric Adelman, last week replied to an information request regarding Iraq from a member of the Senate Armed Services Committee (Sen. Clinton-D., NY) with a letter claiming that mere discussion of the topic “reinforces enemy propaganda,” these scenarios may not be as much of a stretch as they might at first seem.

For anyone who thought that the series of post-9/11 U. S. government actions to freeze the assets of Muslim charities such as the Holy Land Foundation for Relief and Development, the Global Relief Foundation and the Benevolence International Foundation were unfortunate but essentially a matter of concern only to the Muslim-American community, this should be a wake-up call. The first application of this order will create a classic illustration of the Niemoeller lament that, "First they came for..., and I did nothing." In this case, they've given themselves the ammunition to come for us.

US university students will not be able to work late at the campus, travel abroad, show interest in their colleagues' work, have friends outside the United States, engage in independent research, or make extra money without the prior consent of the authorities, according to a set of guidelines given to administrators by the FBI.

Federal agents are visiting some of the New England's top universities, including MIT, Boston College, and the University of Massachusetts, to warn university heads about the dangers of foreign spies and terrorists stealing sensitive academic research.

FBI is offering to brief faculty, students and staff on what it calls "espionage indicators" aimed at identifying foreign agents.

Unexplained affluence, failing to report overseas travel, showing unusual interest in information outside the job scope, keeping unusual work hours, unreported contacts with foreign nationals, unreported contact with foreign government, military, or intelligence officials, attempting to gain new accesses without the need to know, and unexplained absences are all considered potential espionage indicators.

Faculty, staff and students are encouraged to monitor their colleagues for signs of suspicious behavior and report any concerns to the FBI or the military.

"What we're most concerned about are those things that are not classified being developed by MIT [Massachusetts Institute of Technology], Worcester Polytech [Worcester Polytechnic Institute] and other universities," Warren Bamford, special agent in charge of the FBI's
Boston office, told the Boston Herald. "It's to make sure these institutions receive training...[on] what spies look for. There are hundreds of projects going on that could be useful to a foreign power."

"My understanding is that what the FBI is proposing is not illegal, but it does raise questions about the chilling effect in regard to academia, "Chris Ott, Communications Manager of the ACLU of Massachusetts told WSWS. "What will it mean about feeling free to pursue information? People on the campuses will be afraid to ask questions or take on the investigation of certain areas, say, for example, nuclear energy. "

University administrators have expressed their appreciation of FBI efforts.

"It was a very nice offer," Robert A. Weygand, vice president for administration and a former Rhode Island congressman told the Boston Herald. "We are taking it under consideration."

Last year the FBI initiated the College and University Security Effort (CAUSE), in order to establish an "alliance" between the Federal agency and academic institutions.

According to the FBI, through CAUSE, Special Agents in charge meet with the heads of local colleges to discuss national security issues and to share information and ideas.

Federal Approval To Travel Inside US in '08

Buried in the September 5 issue of the Federal Register, was a notice that Thursday, September 20, the Transportation Safety Administration (TSA) will hold public hearings on their so-called Secure Flight Plan.

Come with me into a nightmare world where American citizens will have to obtain permission from the government before they can travel by air in the U.S.

Your government (meaning the Department of Homeland Security) is up to no good.

Beginning in February 2008, U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) will implement their ¨Advance Passenger Information System (APIS),¨ the gist of which is that you will need permission from the United States Government to travel on any air or sea vessel that goes to, from or through the U.S. The travel companies will not be able to issue a boarding pass until you are cleared by DHS. This applies to ALL passengers, US citizens and visitors alike. And how do you get said permission to travel? That´s for your government to know and you to never find out.

Now TSA proposes to do for domestic travel what APIS will do for international routes. That´s what I said: the new TSA rule would require that you obtain PERMISSION to travel within the U.S.

Here is the summary of their proposed rules, which seem so reasonable, couched as they are in the blandness of governmenteez [emphasis added].

The Intelligence Reform and Terrorism Prevention Act (IRTPA) requires the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) to assume from aircraft operators the function of conducting pre-flight comparisons of airline passenger information to Federal Government watch lists for international and domestic flights.

This rule proposes to allow TSA to ... receive passenger and certain non-traveler information, conduct watch list matching ... and transmit boarding pass printing instructions back to aircraft operators.

We propose that, when the Secure Flight rule becomes final, aircraft operators would submit passenger information to DHS through a single DHS portal for both the Secure Flight and APIS programs. This would [result] in one DHS system responsible for watch list matching for all aviation passengers. {as of November 2007 there are over 750,000 Americans labled as terrorists - the problems arise as people do not know they are on the list until it is too late - nobody knows how to get off the list}

The proposal ... require[s] that travellers display their government-issued credentials not to government agents but to airline personnel (staff or contractors), whenever the DHS orders the airline to demand them. But since the orders to demand ID of [certain passengers] will be given to the airline in secret, ... travellers will have no way to verify whether ... demands for ID are actually based on government orders.

Think about that: you will not be allowed to verify if the person demanding your papers is actually authorized to do so. In addition, the airlines or their contractors (or sub or even sub sub contractors) have the right, under the proposed rules, to do anything they like with your personal information including:
keeping copies of your passport ... as long as they like, use it, publish it, broadcast it, sell it, rent it, or pass it on to whomever they please. They would have no obligation to get your permission for any of this.
